At very short notice - here's an opportunity to visit excavations run by West Yorkshire Archaeological Services at Marshall's A & B Mills in Water Lane, Holbeck . The visit is at 10 am this Friday, 24th May. Open to all society members, but numbers are strictly limited. Please contact John Suter asap if you'd like to go along.
Marshall's first flax mills employed revolutionary spinning technology when they were built in the 1790s. Before adopting a Boulton and Watt rotary steam engine, Marshall employed an atmospheric engine to feed a water-wheel. The site is on the north side of Water Lane, near the junction with Marshall Street, a short walk from Leeds City Station.
