Symposium on the Wakefield Court Rolls, Saturday 23 November 2013

Cloth Makers - Walkers PrintThe manor court of Wakefield had jurisdiction over a large area in the heart of western Yorkshire. Its records - including more than 600 court rolls dating from 1274 to 1925 - and are owned by the YAS. The YAS and its Wakefield Court Rolls section have now published over twenty volumes of the edited texts of fifty court rolls ranging through seven centuries in this major programme of publication.

To celebrate the forthcoming publication of the roll for 1812 edited by Dr John Hargreaves a symposium is being held at Northowram Methodist Church on Saturday 23 November.

The new volume will contain records of over 250 copyhold land transactions which passed through the manorial court – leases of domestic, commercial, industrial and other properties, which chronicle the development of Wakefield and its surrounding areas.
